Tried & True: Vol. 1

We all have our tried-and-true favorites that we gravitate towards when it comes time for our daily sesh of staring-into-our-closet-in-our-underwear. And while it's fun to branch out and push our fashion boundaries too, there's something comforting about knowing you can throw on that t-shirt, pair of jeans, or dress that's always flattering, always appropriate, and always in style.

Here are a few timeless pieces that I've personally worn, loved, and find myself going back to time and again. I hope to keep adding to this list, so stay tuned for more tried & true favorites!

Madewell V-Neck Slouch Tee

If you are a self-proclaimed "t-shirt and jeans" kinda girl (or small-framed guy), you have to pick up this tee. Seriously. I know it's on the pricey side, but you have to trust me on this one. The fit of this tee is on point: It's fitted enough to not look sloppy, but is loose enough for those Chipotle-burrito-with-extra-everything kind of days. This tee didn't shrink a bit when I washed it [delicate cycle/tumble dry low] and the viscose fabric is super silky-soft. I started with the grey one and after finding so many ways to wear it (under a black blazer, with jeans and high tops, with white jeans and a statement necklace...) that I immediately went back to get the black one too. Note that this tee is made to be slouchy, so you might need to size down (I wear an XS in this and it still hits below my hips.) You can see the grey tee in action in this outfit post.

J.McLaughlin Nicola Dress

Who doesn't love a good dress? Throw one on with flats for grocery shopping or with heels for drinks with the gals. They're easy, they require little to no accessorizing, and they transition from day to night with only a swipe of eyeliner or lipgloss. Outside of the infamous LBD (little black dress), it's nice to have one with a little more color for days that you need a pick-me-up. On those days, I love a good J.McLaughlin Nicola dress. The website says it all: "...[it's all] about the way the bias tiers [do] such a trick of the eye to flatter the figure..."  This dress has got it goin' on. There are a bunch of colorways to choose from, but my personal fav of the moment is the Orange Riviera, below, because of the multiple ways to style it (with a very close second being the Coral Portsmouth Stripe.)

Soybu Killer Caboose Crops

As an avid gym-goer and previous retail manager for a nation-wide chain of yoga studios, I like to think I know a thing or two about activewear. I also happen to be super picky about what I workout in: I need a great fit that's not too tight or loose in the waist, a fast-drying fabric, and a flattering (if not downright miracle-working) fit. Soybu fits the bill... and I'm not just saying that because I'm one of their Community Leaders! I've loved Soybu for years and practically begged them to let me promote their product. Right now, my favorite pant to workout in is the Killer Caboose Crop (though I'm dying to get their City Leggings too to wear with pumps. Those faux pockets!). The KC crop is stretchier than most, making mobility for squats and lunges a piece of cake, and like all Soybu pants, they're anti-see-through.

I know the market is competitive for yoga brands these days, but I'm definitely a Soybuliever.
